The Department of Agriculture has got the seal of approval of the EU’s Food and Veterinary Office for its measures to implement prohibition of the use of unenriched cages for laying hens after Jan 1, 2012.

Two inspectors from the FVO conducted an audit in Ireland during March, and concluded that the department took satisfactory measures to implement the prohibition.

They verified its implementation during a series of on-site inspections which ensured that there are no registered flocks using unenriched cages in Ireland, and that Ireland fulfils its hen welfare obligations.
