Free service to find all rural locations by code
A Loc8 Code is now available which will pinpoint any location anywhere, within metres, thanks to the wonders of global positioning system (GPS).
The service is free to use by logging on to the www.loc8code.com website of Crosshaven, Co Cork-based company Loc8 Code Ltd.
They developed the service in collaboration with Garmin Europe, which manufactures and markets GPS equipment.
Website users are guided through the process of getting their free code.
The code, or “digital address”, can be inputted into satellite navigation equipment which will calculate the best route for sat-nav users to your location, and guide them to it.
This is much more reliable than keying an address into sat-nav equipment, which depends on correct spelling.
Surveys have shown that satellite navigation is particularly beneficial in rural areas. Some courier companies have refused to make deliveries or do pickups in rural areas because of the difficulty of finding locations. But with sat-nav and the availability of free location codes, this need no longer be the case.
A location code could even prove a lifesaver by enabling emergency services and first responders to find rural locations without delay – not to mention taxis, food deliveries, or any other welcome visitors.
A farmer can obtain a Loc8 Code for a field or even for the gateway to a field, which could be useful for directing agricultural contractors, for example.
Loc8 Code will employ up to 20 people in fully rolling out the system.
