Quality headland holding
The property at Reen, Union Hall is a 103-acre holding with some very good quality land, and what its selling agent, Pat Maguire calls “dramatic” waterfront acres on its cliff-side boundary.
Because of this the farm has less than 80 workable acres, says Maguire.
He’s seeking €750,000 for the farm, which is all in one block and close to Blind Harbour and Reen Pier. The guide price works out at just over €7,000 per acre, which should make this private treaty sale very attractive.
However, with its peerless coastal position and an old ruin on the site, this best-kept-secret location will surely attract indigenous or foreign buyers.
At the guide price it’s a low, low level for west Cork, especially when you consider the coastal location.
The long-term value for the non-farming investor, however, will rest on planning permission, which will not be easy and for that reason there’s more than a fair chance that a farmer may buy this Reen land.
Included is a small island which is a marker for sailors coming into Castletownshend harbour and Reen Pier is included in the sale.
The property is easily accessible and is close to Union Hall and Glandore, and across a bay from Castletownshend.
The farmyard includes a silage pit of 80’ by 80’, a slatted house of 67’ by 44’, a covered shed of 67’ by 22’ and a holding pen and cattle crush all on a concrete yard.
