Galway Homeopathics first to win Irish licence
The Tuam-based homeopathic firm exports animal health products to Britain, and expects to do likewise across Europe after being granted the IMB licence.
Employing 12 in Tuam and a further 12 sales agents around Ireland and two in Britain, Homoeopathics was set up in the home of Kevin and Bridget McHugh in 1989. It now has 10 animal health products on the market.
They include a remedy for Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD); a product fro purifying the air in livestock sheds; mineral and trace elements preparations; hoof cleansing footbaths for cloven-hoofed animals; products for dealing with white scour in calves and mastitis in cows; and organic fertiliser. In Ireland, more than 95% of sales are direct to farmers. “If we were selling through stores or co-ops, it might not always be as easy for the farmer to reach us directly if they need advice on any aspect of our products,” said Kevin McHugh.
But the firm is examining the possibility of having four products which would rarely need back-up service available over the counter.
Mr McHugh said many farmers opt for homeopathic remedies because cattle are no longer as tame as they were, and are easier to treat by administering homeopathic remedies in their drinking water.
