Dear food without soya

BRITISH Government sources have warned that non-availability of soya imports could treble food costs.

Dear food without soya

The British feed and food sectors are worried it will become impossible to maintain the non-genetically modified soya supply chain, according to a report by Britain’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Food Standards Agency.

In their report, experts said in a ‘worst case’ scenario of no soya imports from Argentina and Brazil, feed costs would increase more than 300%, production would fall 24 to 29% for pigs and 10 to 68% for poultry. Prices would increase by 9 to 20% for poultry meat, and much more for pig meat.
