Kerry’s own Golden Vale

THE “for sale” boards have just gone up on a Castlemaine farm in Co Kerry, and interest has been stirred already.

Kerry’s own Golden Vale

According to joint agent Liam Chambers of Green Belt Properties, it offers some of the best land in Ireland, on a par with the Golden Vale.

A retirement sale, the land had been leased long term to a local dairy farmer and is laid out in pasture, in very large divisions. It has a central farm roadway and has the River Maine on its furthest boundary.

The land is level, free draining and very fertile, and suitable for any agricultural purpose, says Chambers.

There are a lot of dairy farms in the area, but it would also be ideal tillage ground, for equestrian pursuits (particularly as it’s so close to Tralee), or might also suit an energy crop.

The 80-acre holding at Ballyfinnane is located on the Firies side of Castlemaine, less than nine miles from Tralee.

It’s a residential sale, and includes a four-bedroomed farmhouse with good quality gardens, and outbuildings include two modern cubicle houses with capacity for 60 head.

The farm also has a milking parlour, but it hasn’t been used for some time. The land has been drystock farmed up to recently.

Although it has little road frontage, the property is located in an area where the scarcity of land sales will fuel demand.

Liam Chambers and joint agent Tom Crowley of Tom Spillane and Co are looking for in the region of €20,000 per acre, or a total price in excess of €1.6 million.
