In Britain — which hasn’t been food self-sufficient for more than a century — the Government has acknowledged that food security is becoming a matter of concern, and has been advised to return to thinking about food as a strategic asset.

As agricultural commodities trade at record high levels, and one food manufacturer after another puts up prices, some countries are questioning if they can afford to keep feeding themselves.
