102-acre farm has 23,000 gallons

MULLINROE, Clondrohid lies to the north of Macroom town, and a 102-acre farm there is new to the market with JJ Hinchion of Sherry FitzGerald Hinchion.

The former home of the Kelleher family, the holding has been in the farm retirement scheme for the past number of years.

The sale includes the original farmhouse, now in poor repair.

Almost 23,000 gallons of milk quota come with the property, which is laid out in one block with the farmhouse and yard at its centre.

Road frontage is limited, but the fields are easily accessible from the yard and house.

Some 75 acres of land are good quality pasture, and the rest is rough ground, part of the more elevated parts of the farm being rocky.

Generally, it’s a good quality farm, says JJ Hinchion, who reports lots of interest in the property.

He is looking for offers over €800,000 and feels the market will sustain that price. The sale is by private treaty.

Situated in the disadvantaged areas, but only three miles from Macroom town, the land would be more than suitable for REPS.

And while some of it needs attention, a bit of clearance could increase the overall acreage. It is also situated close to Clondrohid and Millstreet.

The old farmhouse would respond to renovation work, says the agent: it has four bedrooms.

The yard includes a large barn with two lean-tos, a milking parlour and a cubicle house with 26 units.

There’s an open slurry lagoon, a cattle crush and open silo. The land has mains fencing and water is gravity-fed to troughs.
