IFMA 16 at UCC in 2007
The theme of the congress will be “A vibrant rule economy the challenge for balance”. The objective is to identify key factors supporting a viable, sustainable and balanced rural economy in the 21st century.
The topics covered will include the role in the local economy; agrarian versus rural economies; environment — a global resource; rural settlements; and education and training.
This Congress will be of interest to all involved in agriculture and broader rural development initiatives. Many of the topics covered will be of interest to farmers, farm managers, farming organisations and researchers, and will have particular relevance to Government and State Development Agencies. About 400 delegates are expected to attend, from more than 20 countries.
This IFMA Congress has a key role to play in formulating policy for sustainable rural development. It will provide a platform for debating the issues and act as a catalyst in the adoption of practices and ideas worldwide.
The IFMA organisation is organised and co-ordinated by a Council with members drawn from around the world. Present at the launch at UCC this week were J J Harty, principal, Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College, and Chairman of the IFMA16 organising committee; Tony King, UK, Secretary of IFMA; Pat Enright, UCC, organising committee; and Carol Merry, Illinois, USA, council member of IFMA.
