Buyer in early with €1m plus for farm

ON the market for over a year, a model farm at Currabeha, Fermoy in Co Cork was snapped up prior to auction by an unidentified buyer.

The property was divided prior to auction, with the attached milk quota of 80,000 gallons offered with 70 acres in one block.

The remaining 30 acres have not been sold, and will continue to be farmed by the vendor in the meantime.

Although no sale price has been bandied about, it’s thought that the land reached its guide price of €1.1 million.

The auction would hardly have been cancelled for a lesser sum, when there were a number of interested parties involved, said a local source.

Auctioneer Christy Buckley remained tight-lipped about the sale, and would only say that a confidentiality agreement forbids revealing the identity of the buyer and the sale price.

By way of confirmation of the sale, the same agent will auction the entire Currabeha dairy herd on Friday, October 24.

The Currabeha holding is run by a highly regarded farmer who has created a top class, modern dairy farm, said Mr Buckley prior to the auction.

Described as a streamlined holding, the farm is easily managed for maximum efficiency by one person, said the agent.

It also has an extended grazing season lasting from February to early December, and the land is south-facing.

The yard is right up to modern standards, and is “ready to go” for a dairy farmer. It’s likely the purchaser was just that.

Currabeha is six miles from Fermoy, on the main Waterford road.
