North’s imports affect lamb prices

SHEEP flock owners have called for action and protests to avert the damage which they say is being inflicted on lamb prices from large volumes of the North’s imports into factories in the Republic.

An IFA meeting of up to 100 flock owners at Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny, heard factories were using the North’s lamb imports to undermine prices to their suppliers.

National Sheep Committee chairman Laurence Fallon said producers became very concerned when prices fell below the €3.64/kg (130p/lb) level, but at €3.36/kg (120p/lb) there is real anger.
