To Bantry Bay from Co Down

A MARE of the Co Down was a hit on the banks of Bantry Bay last Sunday, when Desmond Gibson from Dromara won the 2,000 Murnane and O’Shea three year old filly championship, contested by the winners of 23 qualifier shows.

It was one of 50 cattle, 40 horse and 20 sheep classes decided at the west Cork show, headed up by Corney Buckley, chairperson, and Maura O'Flynn, honorary secretary.

The 1,400 Munster commercial beef calf final sponsored by Droumleigh Construction and Jimmy Barry Motors, with a trophy put up by the family of the late Paddy McCarthy, Schull, was won by William Gubbins, Kilfinane, Co Limerick.
