IFA Telecom to benefit Irish farmers

IN a surprise innovative move yesterday, the Irish Farmers Association entered the telecommunications business.
IFA Telecom to benefit Irish farmers

IFA Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the IFA, aims to bring the benefits of competition in the telecoms sector to Irish farmers.

It said it will provide low cost home and business call charges to the Association’s 85,000 members, countryside members, associate members and associated agribusiness.

The IFA said the subsidiary is committed to providing the best possible call charges against current Eircom rates and other carriers.

It predicted that the service, launched in Dublin by Communications Minister Dermot Ahern, will offer significant savings of up to 30% on home and business telephone calls.

The IFA already has thousands of members benefiting from what it described as the best available mobile tariff rates with 02.

Pat Smith, IFA Director of Organisation, said IFA Telecom has been established with a commitment to provide members with best value call charges at all times. “IFA Telecom call rates provide significant savings against all Eircom Option and Esat plans and other tariff offers.

“Members will enjoy the best available call charges and save money and since IFA Telecom is owned by the Association, any profits generated by the company are put to work for the benefit of the members.”

Mr Smith said it is a “win, win” situation for both the members and the Association.

Over the coming weeks and months all IFA members will get the opportunity to benefit from the savings to be made with IFA Telecom and participate in building a farmers owned telecommunications company. In a further innovation, IFA will be using the IFA Telecom phone bill as a communication tool to its members.

It said IFA Telecom subscribers will benefit from a bi-monthly alert service on their telephones.
