Huge margins being made on milk
Liquid Milk Committee chairman Donal Kelleher said the move would give consumers the option of locally produced, fully traceable, high quality milk in restaurants and hotels.
He said the catering trade is making huge margins on liquid milk, but uses increasing quantities of imported products and then charges up to ten times the price producers receive.
Mr Kelleher said he has paid €1.55 for a pint of milk (€2.73/litre) in restaurants, although he receives around 31c/litre for it as a producer.
