Shrinking SPS warning

EVEN as they apply to enter the Single Payment Scheme, English farmers are being warned that the annual cheque will have diminished by 26% after five years.
Shrinking SPS warning

The dire prediction comes from the Natwest bank, where head of agriculture Ian Kenny, says EU and regional modulation, cutbacks due to European budget constraints, and the UK’s national reserve system would all chip away at the cheques.

A 300 hectare English arable farm with 20 beef finishers would receive about €30,000 less in 2012 than at present, and a two million litre a year English dairy farm in a disadvantaged area, with 24 ha of arable crops and 30 slaughter premium claims a year would lose about €15,500 in five years.
