Dungarvan is milk test centre for 6,500 dairy farmers from Cork to Armagh
Samples are collected in specially fitted refrigerated vans from the group’s 6,500 dairy farmers, from Cork to Armagh.
At peak, more than 17,000 test results are processed daily by the laboratory. Test results can be viewed instantly by farmers who have access to Glanbia’s Agrilink internet system.
The i laboratory is the first in the Irish dairy industry to receive CLAS accreditation (Campden Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) for chemical and microbiological tests.
Environment and Local Government Minister Martin Cullen, who officially opened the lab with Glanbia chairman Tom Corcoran, highlighted the group’s strategic standing in the South East.
In Co Waterford, more than 260 staff are employed between Snowcream, Kilmeaden Cheese, the Dungarvan Shared Services Centre, and the agribusiness branch network.
“Glanbia also contributes over 70 million annually to the Waterford economy through milk and grain purchases,” he said.
