THE new chairman of Glanbia Plc, the €1.8 billion turnover international dairy, consumer foods and nutritional products company, is Michael Walsh, who farms at Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny.

He was elected at a board meeting in Kilkenny yesterday to succeed Tom Corcoran, Bohadoon, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, who has retired as chairman, a post he had filled for the past five years, and also as a director of the company.

Mr Walsh, who has been vice chairman of the board since 1996, has also been appointed chairman of Glanbia Co-op. He is a director of the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society and the Irish Dairy Board Co-op. The board elected Victor Quinlan as a vice-chairman, in succession to Mr Walsh.

Mr Quinlan, who farms at Baptistgrange, Lisronagh, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, has also been appointed vice chairman of Glanbia Co-op.

He is a director of a number of Irish companies including Irish Sugar and Malting Company of Ireland. Liam Herlihy, who farms at Headborough, Knockanore, Tallow, Co Waterford, continues in his capacity as a vice-chairman of the board.

Glanbia Plc also announced the appointment of three new non-executive directors, Paul Haran, Matthew Merrick and Michael Keane, and the retirement as a director of Thomas Heffernan, who farms at Kearney Bay, Co Kilkenny.
