SOME 30 redundancies will result from the transfer by Glanbia Consumer Foods of its CMP fresh milk distribution operation from the Kinsale Road depot in Cork city to two other smaller depots at the end of April.
30 jobs lost as CMP moves to smaller depots

The food group said yesterday that its CMP milk and cream products will continue to be distributed to the Cork market by existing and new drivers.

Glanbia spokesman Gerard McGrath said it was regrettably the move to smaller depots will result in redundancies for employees.

Like all consumer businesses the competitiveness of CMP depends on lower energy, packaging, distribution and overhead costs.

He said the Kinsale Road depot was leased from Dairygold to facilitate the transfer of the business in February-April 2005 and this process is now completed.

“The decision to consolidate distribution is no reflection on staff but on commercial realities,” he said, acknowledging the contribution made by all CMP staff.

Glanbia purchased the CMP brand in February 2005.

This included the relevant sales and distribution assets but excluded the production and chill facility.

A total of 130 Dairygold liquid milk producers continue to supply that co-op, which in turn sells the 6.15-million gallon CMP liquid milk pool on to Glanbia for the Cork market.
