Anger at move on carcass grading
President Thomas Honner said the move was a non-runner, as it would leave factories with the option of installing a mechanical grading machine or employing their own human grader.
It would essentially privatise the grading process, undermine the integrity of the system and cost farmers money.
“The industry needs a consistent and independent carcass grading system so that farmers are rewarded for producing quality animals.
"Independently monitored mechanical grading is the only way to achieve this,” he said.
