Flavoured milk launch welcomed
Liquid Milk Committee chairman Donal Kelleher said it was a novel initiative as it promotes the consumption of fresh milk to children. Drinking milk was proven to be far healthier for children than fizzy drinks which damage their teeth and contribute to obesity.
Mr Kelleher urged all dairies to make greater marketing efforts to make milk more convenient, attractive and relevant to the modern consumer. Until Glanbia's initiative, all flavoured milks sold in Ireland were imported.
“I believe that if greater efforts were made by liquid milk processors to make fresh milk both more attractive and more relevant to modern consumers, we could increase the sales of locally produced milk,” he said.
He added that it was possible to prevent the devaluing of a high quality, fresh product.
