Online herd profile enquiry for farmers
This facility will allow farmers to view online details of their cattle herd profiles as well as movements in and out of herds during a specified period.
A facility to enable farmers to register calf births over the internet will be made available over the coming months.
Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh said it has always been his objective to provide farmers with as many avenues as possible for interaction with his department.
“This development also furthers the Government’s commitment to provide electronic access to information where possible to its citizens,” he said.
Mr Walsh said the Herd Profile Enquiry facility was part of the new Animal Movement and Identification (AIM) system currently being developed by the department. This system will, when fully developed, be a generic animal database covering cattle, sheep and pigs.
It will integrate and upgrade the existing animals identification and movement systems, including CMMS.
AIM is being developed using the latest internet-based technology and, in time, farmers will be able to view other details in relation to their herds and animals as well as carrying out some functions online. AIM will also be fully integrated with the Animal Health Computer System (AHCS) to provide a single source of animal data.
Mr Walsh said that the Herd Profile Enquiry facility will be accessed through eServices on the department’s website (www.agriculture.gov.ie). Farmers who have already registered for electronic services will be able to access the herd profile facility immediately.
