Contractor goes on the wagon for high quality, high output silage harvesting and low labour input

CO CLARE silage contractor Jim McNamara finds the Pottinger Profi silage wagon is well suited to the soft ground conditions and hilly land which he often encounters. He uses three wagons on about 2,000 acres per year, aiming for high quality, high output harvesting with low labour input.

Fields can take wagons earlier than heavier silage outfits which would sink and cut up the ground, and leave compacted soils behind.

Double axled, low ground pressure wheels leave the ground in better shape, and if conditions are borderline for travel, there is the option of taking a half load at the time.

Normally, he fills 7.5 tonne loads behind 125 horse power tractors.

Wagon suspensions enable high road speeds between the field and farmyard, and they can pivot easily on one of their two axles for better maneouvrability.

Other contractors have found the wagon just right for layering arable silage with grass in the pit.
