Eileen leads the way in making the most of Macra
Eileen Martin is chairperson of Seandún Macra region and president of Glanmire club, which celebrates its golden jubilee next month. "I'm surprised and honoured at being chosen. I joined Macra eight or nine years ago nd I enjoy it greatly. Whatever you put into Macra, you get out of it," she said.
Eileen, who works with FCI in Fermoy, became involved in developing the Glanmire club, where she helped double the membership during her year as motivation officer. It was Seandún club of the year in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
An award-winning club secretary, she also oversaw the setting-up of two new Macra clubs in the Seandún region.
Eileen has been involved in organising a full and varied programme of competitions, workshops, social events and travel during her role as development and education secretary.
Having achieved five gold awards in the county leadership honours, Eileen is also extremely active in the community.
She is a youth development leader for Tallow horse fair, a regular fundraiser for Cork Cancer Research Fund and a social development leader in Glanmire. In 2001, she received a Cork local County Council voluntary youth work award.
Eight finalists have been chosen to go through to this year's national leadership awards on February 10. Three overall winners will be chosen on the day based on interviews with judges and an already submitted project.
