Improved trade at mart sales
Bullocks and heifers showed gains of up to €20/head and cull cows sold for up to €330 over €/kg, with an increase in the number of factories processing cows leading to stronger competition. Friesian beef bullocks made €430 over €/kg.
Supplies on offer were similar to last week at Bandon Mart, where beef was scarce and the small entry of forward stores made up to €220 over €/kg Best of the heifers sold for up to €200 over with Angus and Herefords ranging €120-€165 over.
There was almost 500 head on offer at Kilkenny where bullock prices were up €10-20/head and heifers showed similar gains. Beef bullocks ranged €200-€370 over, with bullocks under 400kg making €150-€300 over. Beef heifers were at €210-€380 and stores sold at €100-€240.
At Ennis Mart bullocks were improved by up to €20/head and the cull cow trade was described as “a flyer.” Bullock prices ranged €170 over to a top of €430 over. The top price was paid for a pair of Friesian bullocks weighing 766kg sold for €1,195. Two Charolais 575kg made €1,000, three Limousin weighing 607kg sold for €1,030, and a 628kg Charolais made €1,055.
The heavy heifers ranged €150-€370, which was not much stronger than cull cows which sold for up to €330 over. Lighter animals and poorer graders ranged back to €100 under €/kg.
Store bullocks and heifer prices were stronger by €10-€15 over at Blessington Mart. Beef bullocks made up to €400 over. Forward stores made up to €380 over and stores sold for up to €295 over.
