On the last day of August, the day after Seamus Heaney died, I was at hurling training.

To dig with his pen was his vow, and how

Some years ago, at Listowel Writers’ Week, Seamus Heaney gave a genuine belly laugh when I told him the following true story.

In the Irish Examiner recently (Aug 28), the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB) said that normal circumstances did not apply this year, because it had only been notified of its teacher allocation in June, by the Department of Education.

Brian Cowen’s admission that he didn’t believe the people who warned of a collapse in the Irish economy proves two things

I once told Seamus Heaney that I regarded him as the second Sandymount man to have won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In what is yet a further effort to undermine and muddy the narrative of Irish history by conferring a bogus respectability on the actions of the Black and Tans and Auxiliaries during the Irish War of Independence, former garda Gerry Lovett has organised a church service for those RIC members killed opposing Irish independence.

It is typical of the incompetence of the Irish media that the trivial in political life gets blanket coverage, while the important is ignored.

The likely military bombardment of Syria will kill and injure many innocent people, and have disastrous long-term consequences.
