Lives on the ‘line’

Re the ‘Dying to Cross’ (Forum, Aug 24) feature in your newspaper last week.

I lived in San Diego, which is 11 miles from the borderline.

It’s amazing what people will do to get into the States. It must be very tough at home for them to cross the desert in +100 degrees of heat. I travelled from San Diego to Yuma, in Arizona, one day, along the border fence near Calexico.

Having seen the desert, and the dunes, I am amazed that anyone makes it across alive.
