A window of opportunity has opened. Responding to the clear, brutal message sent by the voters to the Government, but particularly to Labour, Eamon Gilmore has acted with honour and pragmatism.
The news that Labour leader Eamon Gilmore is to step down is puzzling given that Fine Gael’s performance was nothing to boast about, yet there are no moves plotted against Enda Kenny.
The reference to the failure of John the Baptist to make any headway in the recent election and the fact that he ultimately lost his head has more relevance to the present situation than has being ascribed to it by media commentary.
