The people who were looking for a head were the anti-austerity Herods and Salomes of the media. These were the same people who missed the fact that the country was being bankrupt by the decisions of a small number of its most powerful citizens during the boom.

They are still looking for other people’s heads in order to distract attention from their own failings.
