EU seems intent on war with Russia
EU seems intent on war with Russia

Regarding the chaotic situation in Ukraine, the treachery and delusion of the European Union is plain for all to see: firstly, by backing the violent overthrow of a democratically elected president, Viktor Yanukovych; secondly, by signing an association agreement with Ukraine in the middle of a civil war; and, thirdly, by supporting president Petro Poroshenko in Eastern Ukraine.

A US military plane just to scare old Irish people
A US military plane just to scare old Irish people

American Football at Croke Park? Seems like a good idea. Parachutist arriving with football (although, on this occasion, he missed the playing field)? Seems like a good idea.

Sly attempts to rope EU into a war with Russia on Ukraine’s behalf
Sly attempts to rope EU into a war with Russia on Ukraine’s behalf

Mayo loss shows GAA referees need assistance
Mayo loss shows GAA referees need assistance

In last weekend’s GAA All-Ireland football semi-final, Mayo were robbed by at least two close-in frees and a penalty that shouldn’t have been awarded to Kerry, and by frees that should have been awarded to Mayo. It wasn’t the referee’s fault. He was unsighted, and suffering from fatigue and cramp towards the end.

The never-ending cycle of violence in Gaza
The never-ending cycle of violence in Gaza

With its latest announcement of settlement expansion in the West Bank, Israel has again demonstrated that any apparently positive statements it makes regarding a two state solution are disingenuous.

Kenny failed on promises making a mockery of ‘democratic revolution’

I’m sorry to read Mr Barry Walsh took such exception (Letters, August 28) to my comments that Mr Kenny is simply not up to the job he was elected to do.

Football occasion merits proper national anthem

Once again I despair at the inability of the GAA to find a singer in the whole country who knows the words of Amhrán na bhFiann to be sung before a major event like the Dublin v Donegal match on Sunday. Do they hold auditions for this prestigious honour and, if so, should they not ensure that the chosen singer can pronounce the words properly?

Balance quality pre-schooling with education and support for parents

Pre-school education is important and deserves more investment. But tirelessly debating quality standards, crèche inspections, and the capabilities of early childhood staff and inspectors distracts from the obvious — reducing socially generated gaps in child outcomes cannot be the sole responsibility of Ireland’s pre-school education system, and the debate is a smokescreen.

Anti-Catholic bias is apparent in reporting by state broadcaster RTÉ

There seems to be a strong anti-Catholic bias in RTÉ, sometimes it is very subtle and on occasions it is quite aggressive in language and tone.
