I have, over the last week, being listening to both points of view as regards the state of Cork hurling. Both Donal Og and the county board have valid points but what seems to be lost in all this debate in the average player.

Martin O’Quigley claims (Letters, 25 July) that the Irish-Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) had nothing to do with the intimidation that forced Irish dancing schools to withdraw from an Israeli feis.

The ridiculous assertion by Martin O’Quigley that the IPSC [Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign] has never acted in an intimidatory way towards supporters of Israel is nonsense.

Regarding the cancelled Croagh Patrick pilgrimage last Sunday. It was correct to cancel but not necessarily right. I can understand the officials who made the decision to cancel… but people by the thousands still went up anyway.

Mo comhghairdeas to John Creedon and to RTÉ on a wonderful opening show, highlighting our magnificent west coast.

Just a word of warning to any emigrant, with a sliver of hope to return and make their life in Ireland, who thinks the worst is over and things have changed.

Thanks to Terry Prone for making a very important point in her column (Irish Examiner, July 27). The foreign people who come to make their homes among us are the most valuable import Ireland has. Many of them will, if we’re lucky, become Irish citizens.

To lose one senior member of our Central Bank would be okay but to have the early retirement of three internationally-respected bankers, including the Governor, raises questions.

The declaration by David Drumm, former chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank that he would deliberate to the banking inquiry by video link is an outrageous display of condescension and disrespect toward the Irish public and a mischievous instance of self-serving manipulation.

An article in An Phoblacht stated that on August 1 Sinn Féin will re-enact the funeral of O’Donovan Rossa who was buried at Glasnevin in 1915.
