For the past month, I’ve been wearing the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro every day, and it’s fair to say it has impressed me. It features premium materials, a stunning display, and the kind of battery life that most rivals can only dream of.

Design and build

Huawei’s GT series has always focused on style, and the Watch GT 6 Pro strikes a balance between modern design and classic appeal. I tested the elegant titanium model paired with a gold fluoroelastomer strap, which can be easily swapped thanks to a simple press-and-release mechanism on each side. That makes switching between something sporty for the gym and something more refined for a night out refreshingly hassle-free.

The GT 6 Pro is crafted from aerospace-grade titanium alloy, and the case features a combination of brushed and polished textures that’s both sporty and premium. The sapphire circular glass display cover not only adds durability but also a touch of class that keeps it looking sharp even after a month of daily wear. The octagonal bezel, complete with minute markers and engraved numerals, gives it a sense of depth and detail without appearing overly busy.

At 46mm, the GT 6 Pro is unapologetically large, and I love it. Those with smaller wrists may find it oversized, but on mine, it felt just right. Despite its size, the lightweight build makes it far more wearable than many other big watches. I had no problem wearing it for sleep tracking. The supplied silicone strap with woven detailing complements the design nicely: sporty enough for workouts, yet refined enough for the office. Huawei also offers the GT 6 in a smaller 41mm size, but the Watch GT 6 Pro comes in just one: 46mm.

The rotating crown is super stylish and serves as both a scrolling mechanism and a secondary programmable button. Everything feels solid, well-made and reassuringly premium.

Display

The Watch GT 6 Pro boasts a superb 1.47-inch AMOLED display that reaches an impressive 3,000 nits of brightness. In real-world use, it’s excellent, even under bright sunshine. I had no trouble reading notifications, workout stats, or health data.

Colours are vibrant, text is sharp, and animations glide across the screen with impressive smoothness. The sapphire protection allows me to wear it confidently without worrying about scratches, and after a month, the screen still looks as flawless as it did on the day I received it.

The always-on display options are customisable and really useful, and I appreciated being able to glance down at the time without having to flick my wrist. Simply put, this is one of the best smartwatch displays I’ve tested.

Features and battery life

Battery life lasts nearly two weeks with heavy use, far exceeding that of most rivals. Picture: Noel Campion.

Huawei has packed its HarmonyOS 6 software into the GT 6 Pro, making it feel smoother and more polished than previous generations. The interface is intuitive: swipe left for a neat hub of essential information such as health stats, weather and calendar events, and swipe down for a refreshed quick settings panel.

Health and fitness features cover all the usual bases and then some, including heart rate monitoring, SpO2 tracking, pulse wave arrhythmia analysis, arterial stiffness detection, temperature monitoring, sleep analysis, stress level detection, ECG recording, and workout tracking. Where Huawei has taken a step further is in its emotional well-being tracking, which now recognises up to 12 emotional states. It’s not perfect, but it adds an extra dimension to daily health insights.

One frustration is contactless payments. Despite having the NFC hardware, Huawei Wallet isn’t supported here in Ireland, and without Google Wallet support, that feature feels wasted. For me, that’s the biggest limitation of what is otherwise an excellent smartwatch.

Battery life, however, more than makes up for it. Huawei claims up to 21 days, and from my testing, that’s not far off. Of course, how long the battery lasts changes dramatically depending on the features you use, but compared to the daily or two-day charging most smartwatches demand, this endurance is game-changing.

Activity and smart features

The GT 6 Pro features dual-band GPS, delivering reliable results on my cycle trip and hikes. I found it remarkably accurate in rural areas, where some devices struggle. Huawei says its upgraded Sunflower Positioning System will ensure that routes and metrics are recorded precisely, providing absolute confidence in the data.

The Watch GT 6 Pro introduces a groundbreaking virtual power feature for cyclists, estimating power output in watts directly from the wrist, which eliminates the need for an external power meter. It’s an impressive innovation, using advanced algorithms that factor in speed, altitude, incline, rider weight, and bike type. By removing the need for costly hardware, Huawei has made structured training far more accessible, and in my view, it’s a useful upgrade for anyone serious about cycling. The watch also supports a wide variety of other sports modes, including golf, skiing and trail running, each with tailored data points.

Sleep tracking has been consistently reliable, providing a detailed breakdown of my sleep stages and helpful insights into overall rest quality.

Notifications, calls and media controls all work smoothly, with the built-in speaker offering clear enough audio for quick calls when my phone wasn’t nearby.

Verdict

The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro is one of the most stylish and durable smartwatches I’ve worn, with an incredible display, refined software and outstanding battery life. Its lack of contactless payments in Ireland is a real shame, but everything else makes it a top-tier wearable for both fitness enthusiasts and style-conscious users alike.
