Man arrested after woman’s body discovered in Co Galway

A man has been arrested after the body of a woman was discovered in Co Galway on Thursday morning.

Gardaí attended the scene near an emergency residential premises on Galway Road in Clifden.

The body of a woman in her 30s was found at the location. It is understood the incident did not occur inside the premises.

A man in his 30s was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Gardaí said they are following a definite line of inquiry and are not seeking any other person in connection with the incident.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination.

The coroner and State Pathologist have been notified. The woman’s body will be removed from the scene for a autopsy in due course.

The results of the autopsy will help determine the course of the ongoing investigation.
