The Hozo M-Cube 02 Anti-Gravity laser level is one of the most impressive levelling tools I’ve used. Like all the Hozo devices I’ve tested, the M-Cube 02 features a clever design, modular expandability, and practical real-world applications that go far beyond being just a flashy gadget.

As with Hozo’s earlier design-focused products, the M-Cube 02 doesn’t skimp on build quality. It’s compact and well-built, with a modern aesthetic that doesn’t feel like your average industrial tool. It fits right in on a designer's desk, workshop, or DIYer’s kit.The combo kit I tested includes modular magnetic components, allowing you to integrate it with older M-Cube modules like the 00G Green Laser. This backwards compatibility is a big plus — investing in the M-Cube 02 is more of an upgrade than a replacement, which speaks to the company’s forward-thinking approach.

The M-Cube 02 solves a problem I didn’t realise existed, but every time I use it, I think of James Bond or Mission Impossible. The integrated vacuum adhesion system is effective even on painted walls, ensuring a secure hold without causing damage to the surface. This means it can be used in various locations without concern for compatibility with the wall material or finish. No more fiddling with awkward tripods or balancing a laser on uneven surfaces — this device easily sticks to vertical walls, even textured ones like painted plaster or tile. What really surprised me was that I managed to get it to stick to a stippled ceiling. I assumed the textured, uneven surface would prevent a proper seal, but I was wrong. Of course, there are limitations; don’t expect it to adhere to rough, unpainted concrete. But as long as the surface is relatively flat and gap-free, it holds firmly in place.

The M-Cube 02 has horizontal and vertical levelling beams and laser-based distance measuring. It allows you to mark exactly where your fittings should go without grabbing an extra tape measure. Whether you need to ensure symmetry between two lighting fixtures or evenly space kitchen cabinets, the M-Cube 02 handles the calculations for you. There’s also a convenient midpoint finder and a mode to measure the distance between two surfaces — extremely useful for room layout planning, hanging centre-aligned wall art, or spacing between furniture. The M-Cube 02 comes with a tripod plate that lets you attach a standard laser level directly to the wall. This worked surprisingly well — I’ve always found setting up my standard laser level on a tripod awkward, so being able to do it quickly and easily was a game-changer.

You can use the M-Cube 02 alone as a high-precision laser level, complete with horizontal and vertical bubble indicators, or pair it with the M-Cube main unit for advanced digital angle readouts. If you don't already own the main unit, a combo kit that includes both devices is available. When the M-Cube is attached to the 02, you can connect it to the Meazor app, which syncs measurements directly to your smartphone. This is especially useful when working solo or across larger areas, allowing you to take readings remotely and plan layouts digitally. It’s one of those features that might seem like a gimmick — until you try it. After that, it’s hard to imagine going without it.

In the time I’ve had it, I’ve used it for various tasks — mounting monitors on a dual-arm setup, evenly spacing LED light strips behind a media unit, and even planning a gallery wall in the living room. My personal use case is relatively limited, so unless you know you’ll be using it regularly, it might be more than you need. While the M-Cube 02 is incredibly versatile, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. While strong, the vacuum system may struggle on uneven or porous surfaces like raw brick. At €135 for the 02 module alone (or €280 for the Premium Combo), it’s definitely a more premium purchase. It offers excellent value for professionals and serious DIYers, but it might be overkill if you’re just looking for a tool for the occasional home project.
The Hozo M-Cube 02 Anti-Gravity Laser Level is an innovative, well-built, and genuinely useful tool. If you’re looking for a levelling tool that offers more than just straight lines, the M-Cube 02 is a solid investment in both time and precision.
