The Honor Magic7 Pro has arrived across Europe, and it's making some bold promises, particularly around AI-powered photography and productivity. Following on from the launch of the Magic7 Lite, this new flagship aims to push the boundaries of what a premium smartphone can do — but does it hit the mark for everyday users?

First impressions

The Honor Magic7 Pro screams premium from the curved display and sleek Lunar Shadow Grey finish on my review unit, which gives it a refined look that can easily compete with other flagship devices like Samsung’s Galaxy S series or Apple’s iPhone Pro models.

The 6.8-inch OLED display comes with Honor’s new "Natural Light AI Eye Comfort Display" tech, which aims to reduce eye strain by simulating the characteristics of natural light, and it certainly feels more manageable on the eyes during prolonged use.

Honor has included its NanoCrystal Shield on the durability front, claiming it’s ten times more drop-resistant than standard glass. While I wasn’t brave enough to test this claim by dropping the phone, it does give me peace of mind that the device is built to withstand daily wear and tear.

AI-powered photography

The Magic7 Pro's headline feature is its AI-enhanced camera system, and Honor is pulling out all the stops to convince users that this is a photography game-changer.

The phone has a triple rear camera setup. The main camera, which captures details in bright and low-light conditions, is 50MP. The wide camera, which captures expansive landscape shots, is 50MP. The telephoto camera, which captures long-range shots and night photography, is 200MP.

In my few days of hands-on testing at the beautiful Bled in Slovenia, the camera delivered impressive results. The AI Honor image engine can detect scenes, adjust settings automatically, and enhance details in real time. The AI super zoom, which offers up to 100x zoom, captured surprisingly detailed images from a distance, though it’s more of a fun feature than something most users will use daily.

The phone’s low-light performance stood out. The large sensors and AI processing made night shots bright, clear, and free from excessive noise. However, the AI-enhanced portraits felt a bit overprocessed, especially when shooting human subjects, with skin tones looking a little too smooth.

Is it revolutionary? Not quite. But it’s undoubtedly one of the better smartphone cameras, particularly for low-light photography.

Google Gemini app

The Magic7 Pro is the pre-installed Google Gemini app, which integrates AI assistance directly into the phone.

Gemini is more than just a voice assistant. It’s a context-aware tool that can summarise emails, generate creative ideas, help plan events, and even create AI-generated images for fun or work purposes.

Performance and battery life

Under the hood, the Magic7 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, which ensures smooth performance across the board. Whether gaming, multitasking, or running AI-heavy apps like Gemini, the phone should easily handle everything.

The AI Predictive Scheduling Engine optimises performance by predicting what the user needs next. It keeps things running smoothly without draining the battery unnecessarily.

Speaking of battery life, the Magic7 Pro features a 5,270mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. However, a charger isn’t included in the box, so you may have to buy an Honor charger to achieve 100W of charging power.

AI-powered productivity

One area where the Magic7 Pro shines is in its productivity features. Honor’s MagicOS 9.0 brings a range of AI tools designed to make work life easier.

Some key features include AI Translation for up to 13 languages in real-time. Honor Notes with an AI Summary feature to distil key points from notes. AI Minutes, which creates summaries from meeting transcripts. These tools are genuinely helpful for professionals who need to stay productive on the go.

Pricing and availability

The Honor Magic7 Pro will be available in Ireland in February for €1,300 in Harvey Norman and Three.
