Smartwatch users typically depend on Bluetooth connections to link their watches to their smartphones. This requires you to stay within a specific range of your device. However, with OneNumber powered by Vodafone's network, customers can now enjoy the robustness and reliability of the network to stay connected and reachable while on the move, regardless of their location within the country.
Vodafone OneNumber, priced at €5 per month, is accessible to Vodafone bill pay subscribers without needing a contract. This feature is compatible with several Samsung LTE watches, including the Watch6, Watch5 Pro, Watch5, and Watch4, and it can be used seamlessly with various Samsung and Android smartphones. It's worth noting, however, that as of this review, Vodafone OneNumber is not compatible with Apple Watches or smartwatches from other brands.
It's important to note that only Samsung watches equipped with LTE capabilities will function with this feature. This is because most Samsung watches rely solely on Wi-Fi connectivity and lack the essential hardware, including eSIM technology, required for OneNumber compatibility.
I tested the OneNumber with a Galaxy S23 and a Watch5 on a two-week loan from Vodafone. I used the smartwatch for calls and to stream music on my Spotify account with Samsung Buds Pro connected to the watch via Bluetooth, giving me total freedom.
The OneNumber system operates by registering and sharing your mobile number on the eSIM of your Samsung smartwatch.
The only real issue I had with the OneNumber is that it doesn’t work when abroad. It will still work normally when the phone it’s paired with is nearby, but you can’t make calls, receive or send data independently, or at least I didn't work on a recent trip to London.
Using the Vodafone OneNumber offers versatility for various use cases. It can be a communication device, fitness tracker, navigation tool, and more in one compact package on your wrist.
Vodafone OneNumber can function independently from a paired smartphone. Its mobile data connectivity allows you to make calls, send texts, and access data services directly from the watch. This independence is particularly useful when you want to leave your phone behind or when carrying a phone is inconvenient.
With Vodafone OneNumber, you can make and receive calls and texts directly from your wrist. This is handy for quick communication without taking out your phone, especially when you're on the move or during workouts.
You can receive notifications, check emails, control smart home devices, and even make payments using services like Google Pay directly from your wrist.
With Vodafone OneNumber, your smartwatch can sync data in real time, enabling you to receive notifications, track your progress, and even call for help in emergencies while working out or engaging in outdoor activities.
Using your smartwatch with Vodafone OneNumber, you can access GPS and mapping services without relying on a paired smartphone. This is beneficial for turn-by-turn navigation and location-based services, making finding your way in unfamiliar places easier.
In emergencies, you can make calls directly from your smartwatch, even if you don't have your smartphone. This added safety feature can be crucial in urgent situations.
OneNumber is a valuable service tailored exclusively for Vodafone customers using compatible Samsung smartwatches. While there is hope for expanding to include a more comprehensive array of devices, such as the Apple Watch, the current service functions effectively.
It provides numerous advantages for individuals who prefer not to be constantly tethered to their smartphones. I think the extra €5 a month is worth it if you want the freedom of leaving the house without your phone and all the distractions it brings while still having the convenience and safety of staying in touch.
OneNumber is a valuable service tailor-made for Vodafone customers with compatible Samsung smartwatches. While the possibility of expanding its compatibility to include a broader range of devices, such as the Apple Watch, remains a hopeful prospect, the current service excels in functionality.

At an additional €5 per month, the service is well worth the investment for those who desire the liberty to leave their homes without the constant presence of a smartphone while still maintaining the ability to stay connected.
