O2 customer gets a shock when they open their 'new phone'

23-year-old Greg Cundill from Devon was shocked and amused by the event. “I didn't know what to say when I pulled out what I did,” he said.

"When I opened it I just thought: 'What the hell?' and fell about laughing. The sponge came out first and I thought it might just be for padding. I could feel more weight though and then came the sardines. Everyone just fell about laughing."

He said that the package didn’t look as though it had been tampered with. O2 is currently investigating what happened alongside UK Mail, the courier firm it used to deliver the package. UK Mail maintains that it’s up to O2 to establish what happened and how a tin of sardines ended up in the Galaxy S6 Edge box.

"The depot have advised that this will be an issue for O2, not for us, as the outside of the packaging was not tampered with," a UK Mail spokesperson said. O2, meanwhile, is “investigating how this could have happened with the courier."
