Xperia Z5 phones getting Marshmallow soon

Android Marshmallow is on a small number of phones right now but the rollout will be wider in 2016, with Sony mobile one of the first to the plate

Xperia Z5 phones getting Marshmallow soon

Android 6.0 has existed for a few months now, debuting on the latest Google phones the Nexus 5X and 6P. But there's no point in having an operating system that's exclusive to so few handsets, so we're expecting a much wider rollout in 2016.

The latest rumour suggests that Sony Mobile could be one of the first companies to take advantage of the new software, targeting a working version of Android 6.0 for January 2016. The news comes from a source who says he has knowledge of the internal plans by Sony, and that the Z5 range will be the first handsets to receive the update.

This range includes the regular Z5 plus Premium and Compact offerings that share some impressive specs including a 23 megapixel camera. As the flagship models, it makes sense that they would get Android 6.0 as soon as possible, and we're hearing that older handsets and mid tiers will be updated in the coming weeks.
