Expensive iPhone 6s only costs $211 to make!
It's no surprise to hear that companies are selling their products for more than they cost to make - it's the nature of business to try to turn a profit. But have you ever wondered just what the markup is for something like your shiny new iPhone 6s?
Well as this is the internet, there's already an answer for that question. The team at IHS Technology in the States has been pricing the various components of the new iPhone 6s and it's Plus variant, including the updraded camera and the components which make up the unique taptic interface - which gives you physical feedback and forms part of the Force Touch input.
Here's a breakdown of some of the costs for the iPhone 6s Plus.
One of the main offenders is definitely flash memory, with Apple charging $100 more once you step up from the 16 gig iPhone to a 64 gig version. But flash memory has rarely been cheaper, and that increase in storage space actually only costs Apple a mere $17.
There are other potential factors involved here - Apple may be getting even better prices on bulk ordering these items for one, and these prices don't include the shipping and legal costs or the local taxes in countries. Those elements add a lot to the cost of any device but the bottom line is that Apple is making a huge profit on each and every handset they're selling. And at the last count more than 13 million iPhone 6s models had been sold.
