Sicario sequel incoming - all about Benicio Del Toro

Sicario starring Emily Blunt and from director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) isn't even in cinemas yet but there are rumours a sequel is already in the works, And it will have a new central character, this time focussing on Benicio Del Toro's Alejandro.

There are some great performances and characters in Sicario, including Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin but Del Toro's is probably the most memorable for the way he ties into the entire murky story of the film. A direct sequel with him would certainly be interesting, especially in the wake of the events of the finale, which we won't go into here.

Likewise though we would like to see the story of how he came to the place he is in Sicario, maybe in a prequel story. Del Toro looks remarkably young here so he could shave a couple of years off easily. One interesting point to make is that Villeneuve had to fight to keep this main character as a female for this film - something the studio wanted to change. Making a sequel with a leading male character is a big reversal on that trend, but you also have to use the characters to serve the story as well as you can.

Sicario has been a hit with festival audiences and just opened in the US to strong box office for a limited release. It is in cinemas in Ireland on the 8th of October 2015.
