Samsung releasing first Ultra HD blu-ray player

Samsung wants to bring you really, really high resolution home viewing.

Samsung releasing first Ultra HD blu-ray player

At IFA 2015, the tech giant unveiled details for the launch of the first Ultra HD blu-ray player. This device will bring 4K video playback from physical disks as studios and manufacturers look to the future of home entertainment.

The new tech will not only show video at four times the resolution of HD class blu-rays but will also contrain more detailed picture information thanks to High Dynamic Range data. HDR is a new and important frontier for all kinds of videos, not just offering up a bigger image but also improving the light output to bring more clarity to bright areas and creating a more realistic overall image.

Samsung will be releasing the first Ultra HD HDR blu-ray player in the coming months and they're partnering with the Fox movie studio in a big way. This will ensure that the new format will be supported from the off, releasing Ultra HD disks on the same day as the regular blu-ray and lowly old DVD.

Other studios are also set to support the new format, which hopefully means we won't end up in the middle of a Ultra HD battleground like the faceoff between blu-ray and HD-DVD a few years back.

We'll have more on the new Samsung blu-ray player soon.
