VIDEO Hideo Kojima's sad goodbye to Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain is finally out and while the game is getting rave reviews from critics and fans all over the world, the experience is also bittersweet. That's because after almost three decades it's the final chapter in the franchise, with creator Hideo Kojima officially moving on from the series forever.
To celebrate that amazing achivement, a video has been put together with Kojima visiting a series of people who tell him what the games have meant to them over the last few decades.
The second half of the video takes a bit of a turn, with Kojima meeting the family of Sean Paul Gillespie - a 21 year old fan of Metal Gear who sent an email in 2014 which helped to spur the development team on. It's a unique and sad story, and well worth watching without spoilers.
What a turnaround of a terminally ill young man who got to express himself through games, particularly those made by Kojima. It's an unusually raw look at the kinds of intense relationships people form with games, and a sense of how this can also effect the developers, even thousands of miles away.
And Kojima is sorry it took so long, but he wanted to get his final time in the MSG universe absolutely right for the millions of fans around the world.
