They are to leave their initial test phase, and will soon share public roads with other drivers. That will be a true test of their skills.It’s unclear how many of the bubble shaped cars will be unleashed. Director of the company's self-driving car program, Chris Urmson, simply said that “a few of the prototype vehicles” will take to the open road.While the cars will drive themselves, they will have “safety drivers” on board who will take the wheel if necessary. That should lessen fears that pedestrians, cyclists, and fellow drivers may have.Google’s self-driving cars have been involved in 11 “minor” accidents in the past 6 years. Google was keen to assure people that there were no injuries, that the self-driving vehicles were not at fault and that certain accidents simply can't be avoided.
