Google's self-driving cars will hit the road this summer
They are to leave their initial test phase, and will soon share public roads with other drivers. That will be a true test of their skills.Itās unclear how many of the bubble shaped cars will be unleashed. Director of the company's self-driving car program, Chris Urmson, simply said that āa few of the prototype vehiclesā will take to the open road.While the cars will drive themselves, they will have āsafety driversā on board who will take the wheel if necessary. That should lessen fears that pedestrians, cyclists, and fellow drivers may have.Googleās self-driving cars have been involved in 11 āminorā accidents in the past 6 years. Google was keen to assure people that there were no injuries, that the self-driving vehicles were not at fault and that certain accidents simply can't be avoided.
