Vodafone customers' mobile data usage soars over 19% in 2025
Vodafone customers' mobile data usage rose by 19.24% year-on-year, climbing from 445,133 TB in 2024 to 530,794 TB in 2025.
Mobile data usage among Vodafone customers increased by over 19% during 2025 as the number of voice calls across the network declined, new data from the telecoms provider shows.
According to the company, mobile data usage rose by 19.24% year-on-year, climbing from 445,133 TB in 2024 to 530,794 TB in 2025. The busiest day of the year for the network was Tuesday, December 9, with customers using 1,660 TB of data as Storm Bram hit the country.
Evenings remain Ireland’s prime time for digital activity, with 10pm being generally the busiest hour of the day for data usage.
While the demand for data on Vodafone’s network rose during the year, voice call traffic fell by 7.83% compared to 2024 with the company saying this reflects a “growing preference for messaging, video calls, and social platforms over traditional voice communication”.
The busiest day for calls in 2025 was Wednesday, March 26, with 502,273 Erlangs — a measure of telecommunications traffic — which is equivalent to approximately 10 million calls, assuming an average three-minute duration.
Christmas Day recorded almost 3.4m calls, while New Year’s Day soared past 4.5m.
Together, that’s over eight million calls during the festive period.
A number of events during the year caused a spike in Vodafone’s network usage. Across last year’s Autumn International home matches, Vodafone Ireland’s network managed over 220 TB of data.
According to the communications regulator ComReg, in the third quarter of 2025, Three had the largest share of mobile subscriptions in Ireland with 49.4% — these including mobile broadband and Machine to Machine subscriptions. Machine to Machine subscriptions are specific sims that help smart devices communicate.
This was followed by Vodafone with 27.3%, Eir with 14.5%, Tesco Mobile at 4.6%, Lyca Mobile at 1.7%, Virgin Mobile at 1.3%, An Post Mobile at 0.6% and Sky Mobile at 0.5%.
However, Vodafone had the highest market share excluding mobile broadband and Machine to Machine subscriptions at 32.5%, followed by Three at 27.9% and Eir at 24.4%.
