US advances bill that would force Chinese owner to sell off TikTok

TikTok's offices in Dublin: Unclear what the fallout could be for TiKTok which employs hundreds of people at a major global office in Ireland.

The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that would give TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance about six months to divest the US assets of the short-video app or face a ban in the greatest threat to the app since the Trump administration.

The move is a serious escalation in the US clash over China trade and investments but it is unclear what the fallout could be for TiKTok which employs hundreds of people in Dublin at a major global head office. The Government via the IDA has helped support TikTok and other major Chinese investments in Ireland.
