Aer Lingus shareholders vote in favour of IAG takeover

Aer Lingus shareholders have voted in favour of four resolutions which approve IAG's takeover bid.

Shareholders met to vote on connectivity guarantees and the Government's 'B share' at an EGM in Dublin today.

It is around six months since IAG's interest in Aer Lingus was first reported, which came ahead of several protests, debates about job cuts and connectivity arrangements.

Aer Lingus Chairman Colm Barrington says concerns surrounding the takeover will be proven to be misguided.

He said: "Those concerns are unfounded. We expect that by the end of 2016 there will be another 165 jobs, at least, directly created in Aer Lingus.

"And with more transatlantic routes we think there will be more indirect employment resulting from that.

"We are hopefully going to announce two more transatlantic routes before the end of the year, so I think from that point of view people are probably misguided."
