US stocks have closed lower, shedding some of the gains that pushed a key index to a record level a day earlier.

US stocks slide amid Greece fears

US stocks have closed lower, shedding some of the gains that pushed a key index to a record level a day earlier.

Talks between Greece and its creditors remain unresolved with a major debt payment looming at the end of the month.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 101 points, or 0.6%, to 18,014.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 11 points, or 0.6%, to 2,109. For the week, the index was up 0.8%.

The Nasdaq composite declined 16 points, or 0.3%, to 5,117. It closed at a record the day before.

Treasury prices rose, pushing the yield on the 10-year note down to 2.26%.
