There are reports that Germany is considering a second postponement of this weekend's

make-or-break EU summit in Brussels, amid differences over how Europe's bailout fund should function.

It is understood the idea of postponing the summit was raised at a meeting between Angela Merkel, Nicholas Sarkozy and several top EU officials in Frankfurt.

German Chancellor Merkel's office has not made any comment on the reports.

The summit, originally scheduled for October 17 and 18, was postponed to this weekend to give officials more time to prepare what has been billed as a "comprehensive plan" to save the euro.
