The leaders of France and Germany say they are convinced that debt-ridden Greece's future lies in the eurozone.

The statement comes after Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou today held a teleconference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy on his nation's debt crisis.

Mr Papandreou has promised that his country will stick to the harsh austerity measures required to get an EU bailout.

The tele-conference was held with the markets in turmoil over rising fears of the insolvency of Greece and a possible exit from the eurozone.
