Yorkshire Building Society confirmed talks to merge with rival Norwich & Peterborough today as it continues to snap up smaller mutuals.

The deal will see Bradford-based Yorkshire – the UK’s second biggest building society – add around another 477,000 customers and 46 branches to its existing network.
