New CEO at Superquinn

Superquinn announced today that Andrew Street is to join the business as chief executive on December 2.

Mr Street has worked in the retail sector for over 25 years. He was most recently at Dunnes Stores, where he was Chief Operating Officer for 12 years, and a member of the board since 1996.

Prior to this he spent 12 years with Boots both as a board member and as a director in the company’s corporate headquarters.

“These are challenging times for business in general and retail in particular, but Superquinn has a great heritage with loyal customers and I am very much looking forward to working with the team to build on the great work they have been doing," Mr Street said.

Simon Burke, who has led Superquinn as Executive Chairman since its purchase by Select Retail Holdings in 2005, will now become non-executive Chairman of the company and relinquish responsibility for the day-to-day management of Superquinn.

Superquinn is fully Irish-owned and operates 24 stores in the Republic of Ireland. The company recently opened its newest store at Heuston South Quarter in Dublin, creating almost 60 jobs, and plans to continue the expansion of its store base with announcements of further openings expected soon.
